Steady guide
How to build confidence with one small action a day
Many people wait to feel confident before they act. For a lot of us the feeling turns up after a few attempts, not before. That is why this practice starts with a small action and lets the feeling catch up.
Pick an action you can do while nervous
The right size is uncomfortable but possible today. If you dread it for a week, it is too big.
- Ask one question in a meeting.
- Send the email you keep rewriting.
- Say one sentence of small talk at a shop counter.
Rehearse it once
Spend a minute picturing the moment: where you stand, what you say first, how you breathe. Then say the first line out loud. Rehearsal makes the real moment a little more familiar.
Write two lines afterwards
What did you do, and what happened? Keep it factual. 'I asked my question. My manager answered and moved on.' After three weeks these lines are a record you can look back on when the doubt comes back.
Shrink it on hard days
On a bad day, do the smallest version, such as drafting the email without sending it. Keeping the daily habit matters more than the size of any one step.
Know the limits
This is a reflection practice, not therapy and not treatment for anxiety, and no outcome is promised. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services or, in the US, call or text 988.
Common questions
What if the action goes badly?
Write the two lines anyway. One awkward moment is information, not a verdict. Pick a slightly smaller action tomorrow.
Is Steady therapy for anxiety?
No. Steady is a free daily practice inside NeuroApp. It does not diagnose or treat anything. If anxiety is getting in the way of your life, speak to a qualified professional.
